Laser-based ceramic vitrification validated for structural steel in offshore and naval industries

At Lasercoat, we have successfully applied our laser-based vitrification process to deposit ceramic coatings on structural steel components.

Recent metallographic analyses confirm that the process does not alter the underlying steel microstructure, validating its safety and robustness for demanding industrial applications.

This breakthrough demonstrates that ceramic vitrification by laser can be implemented in sectors such as offshore wind and naval infrastructure, where long-term protection against corrosion and biofouling is critical.

One of the metallographic images obtained during the study —taken at just 1 mm below the vitrified ceramic layer— clearly shows the integrity of the steel structure, serving as strong visual proof of process reliability.

With this validation step, Lasercoat continues to advance towards offering scalable, environmentally responsible, and industry-ready solutions for large-scale marine and offshore applications.
